"Give thanks for the pain you feel because the pain is a measure of your love."

11/2/96-4/6/09

A Dog's Prayer

If it should be that I grow weak,
and pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come, please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me until the end,
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve, it must be you,
Who had this painful thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

The LIVESTRONG Challenge takes place June-October in Davis, Seattle, Philadelphia and Austin. We participate every year and always have an amazing experience from getting to ride with Lance to watching incredibly heroic cancer survivors cross the finish line to receive their yellow rose. The LIVESTRONG Challenge is the Lance Armstrong Foundation's (LAF) signature fundraising event. Since its inception in 1997, the Lance Armstrong Foundation has raised more than $325 million to support their mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. They have provided financial resources to more than 550 organizations that conduct cancer survivorship research or offer services to people affected by cancer, and 81 cents of every dollar raised has gone directly to support programs and services for survivors. They provide support to guide people through the cancer experience, bring them together to fight cancer— and work for a world in which their fight is no longer necessary. This annual series of cycling and running/ walking events takes place in cities across the country. Registration for these events is at www.livestrongchallenge.org.

Lance rides again. The Tour of California-Stage 2, Bonny Doon Rd. 2/16/09

We'd gone to check out the course on Sunday so had a great spot picked out on Bonny Doon Rd, near Santa Cruz. Got up at 5am Monday and were the first ones there at 7am...this was the steepest climb of the day and riders not expected to arrive here until 1pm. We had our laptop so were keeping track of the race throughout the morning. It stopped raining around 10:30 but then started again minutes before the riders started up Bonny Doon Rd. By the time the riders got to us it was really raining but it didn't matter it was soooo exciting!!!! The first riders that came past were on the opposite side of the road. When Lance's group got close he was in the middle of the group--his yellow helmet stood out among the others...but by the time he passed by us he was on the outside and inches away from me!!! I took this picture...it's raining but he's RIGHT there!!!! I could hear him breathing and wanted to reach out and touch him but had visions of that causing a major catastrophe so just yelled, "Go Lance!!!". I felt like such a fanatical teenager at an Elvis concert with my heart pounding, knees knocking, I was all giddy....so stupid...but I couldn't help it. So the hours of miserable waiting were well worth the few seconds I got to be that close to Lance and see him race in person...it made my day...my week...well, I'll probably hold onto that experience for a long time.
